'Heroes' Gets Its Groove Back

When the newest chapter of Heroes opens, Tracy Straus is in her New York apartment changing clothes. On the television, her one-time lover and employer U.S. Sen. Nathan Petrelli tells an interviewer his secret meetings with the president had to do with national security. A moment later, masked gun-men surrounded Tracy. They shoot her with tranquilizer darts. She's knocked out cold.

And things spiral from there.

Masked men apprehend Mohinder, Hiro, Matt and Claire and Peter.

They're loaded onto a plane, presumably on their way to some kind of "mutant" quarantine. There's a battle on the carrier.

The plane goes down.

It took some time to get here, but Heroes seems to have finally gotten the kind of umph that has been missing for the past few months.

The set up of this latest chapter -- "Fugitives" -- has all the stuff that made the first season so appealing, that kind of X-Men meets 4400 vibe that speaks to the inner nerd.

What makes this more intriguing is the prospect that the villains and heroes of the last chapter will have to work together if they are to survive.

Stay tuned. Monday nights, 9 p.m. EST, on NBC.
